New insights into the stereophonic acoustic echo cancellation problem and an adaptive nonlinearity solution

چکیده
In this paper, we expand the knowledge regarding the problems of two-channel (or stereophonic) echo cancellation. The major difference between two-channel and the single-channel echo cancellation is the problem of nonunique solutions in the twochannel case. In previous work, this nonuniqueness problem has been linked to the coherence between the two incoming audio channels. One proven solution to this problem is to distort the signals with a nonlinear device. In this work, we present new theory that gives insight to the existing links between: i) Coherence and level of distortion, and ii) coherence and achievable misalignment of the stereophonic echo canceler. Furthermore, we present an adaptive nonlinear device that incorporates this new knowledge in such a way that a pre-specified maximum misalignment is maintained while improving the perceived quality by minimizing the introduced distortion. Moreover, all the ideas presented can be generalized to the multichannel ( 2) case.

A better understanding and an improved solution to the problems of stereophonic acoustic echo cancellation
Teleconferencing systems employ acoustic echo cancelers (AECs) to reduce echos that result from coupling between the loudspeaker and microphone. To enhance the sound realism, two-channel audio is necessary. However, in this case (stereophonic sound) the acoustic echo cancellation problem is more di cult to solve because of the necessity to uniquely identify two acoustic paths. In this paper, we...

Stereophonic acoustic echo cancellation is one of the expanding areas in the field of the speech/multimedia communication systems. In a conventional stereophonic acoustic echo canceller, working in a stereo communication system, the existence of the strong cross-correlation between the input signals to the two channels has the problem of the low convergence speed of the weights of the adaptive ...
متن کاملA Spectral Dominance Decorrelation Met- Hod for Stereo Acoustic Echo Cancellation
In stereophonic acoustic echo cancellation, the two stereophonic channels are usually strongly correlated, which leads to non-unique solution of adaptive filters. Therefore, the filter misalignment gets large and the tracking capability is poor. In this paper, a novel decorrelation method based on psychoacoustic effect is proposed for stereo acoustic echo cancellation. Spectral dominance effect...

متن کاملStereophonic Acoustic Echo Cancellation: Theory and Implementation
The thesis treats theory and implementation aspects for stereophonic acoustic echo cancellation. In Paper I a complete implementation of a stereophonic acoustic echo canceler based on the two-channel fast recursive least-squares algorithm is presented. An analysis of the system calculation complexity is also given, in addition to simulation results on recorded real-life data. Paper II presents ...
